Please note that Customer Care Centre at Health Promotion Board will cease operation with effect from
1 March 2019. A new outlet at Challenger Bugis Junction will open on 18 February 2019.

Participants who are using Samsung Health mobile app as your paired tracking device will not be able to sync heart rate records with the Healthy 365 mobile app until further notice due to permission issues of heart rate data from Samsung Health mobile app. Hence, Samsung Health mobile app users will not be able to participate in the “MVPA Rewards” category but can continue to participate in the “Steps Rewards” category of the National Steps Challenge^™ Season 4.

To participate in the "MVPA Rewards" category, Samsung Health mobile app users are encouraged to collect the free HPB heart-rate monitoring fitness tracker at our roadshows or make an appointment for collection at the designated collection sites. WHO CAN COLLECT THE FREE HEART-RATE MONITORING FITNESS TRACKER

All Singaporeans/Permanent Residents (including previous season participants) who have signed up for National Steps Challenge™ Season 4 are eligible. Each participant is only eligible for one free HPB fitness tracker.

Collection On Behalf
If you are unable to collect the HPB fitness tracker personally, you can authorise someone else to collect on your behalf after you have successfully registered for National Steps Challenge^™ Season 4.

The authorised person must produce the original or photocopy of your NRIC for verification of eligibility during collection. Each person can only collect up to 3 HPB fitness trackers (including his/her own tracker). Please note those participants who are in the Pioneer Generation queue at our roadshows may collect up to 2 HPB fitness trackers, of which one must be for themselves and the other for their spouse.

MVPA 101

What is MVPA?

MVPA refers to moderate to vigorous physical activities. Physical activity is a core component of a healthy lifestyle, and covers a range from incidental movement (such as walking to get to places) to leisure-time physical activity such as sports and exercise that range from moderate intensity to vigorous intensity.

How do I know if my activities are of moderate to vigorous intensity?

To gauge your level of intensity, you can simply measure your heart rate during your activities. Heart rate is measured in beats per minute (bpm) and can vary greatly from person to person depending on factors like age and fitness level.

Exercise within the moderate to vigorous heart rate zones to clock MVPA!

Heart Rate Zone (% of Maximum Heart Rate)
LIGHT 57% – 63% of Maximum Heart Rate	MODERATE 64% – 75% of Maximum Heart Rate	VIGOROUS 76% – 95% of Maximum Heart Rate

In other words, MVPA is attained when you reach at least 64% of your maximum heart rate.

HOW DO I ESTIMATE MY MAXIMUM HEART RATE?

Use the formula below to estimate your age-predicted maximum heart rate

Who can participate

MODERATE-INTENSITY PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Moderate-intensity physical activities refer to those that cause a noticeable increase in breathing rate and heart rate. For instance, brisk walking at approximately 100 steps per minute should get you to an intensity that you will be able to carry on a conversation but will not have enough breath to sing.

VIGOROUS-INTENSITY PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Vigorous-intensity physical activities refer to those that cause large increases in breathing rate and heart rate. For instance, you will not be able to carry out a conversation while you are jogging or doing step aerobics, but you are not out of breath.

Who can participate

You can now check your heart rate easily during your activities with the HPB fitness tracker! The HPB-issued heart-rate monitoring fitness tracker can track your heart rate continuously as long as it is charged and worn correctly on the wrist as you move throughout the day.

RECORDING YOUR FITNESS ACTIVITIES

To monitor heart rate at greater accuracy during exercise sessions, trigger the Exercise function within your HPB fitness tracker.

The Healthy 365 mobile app will only register MVPA duration for exercise sessions that

last more than 10 minutes; and
at moderate to vigorous levels of intensity

GAME YOUR WAY TO FITNESS

Pick up your game console, get off your couch and get fit with exercise video games! These games are an entertaining alternative that encourages family and friends to get active together. From multi-player dance battles to simulated tournaments of all your favourite sports, there are endless game options that can strengthen bonds and facilitate effective workouts!

Download or update to the latest version of the Healthy 365 mobile app.

Create your profile, or restore your profile if you already have one.

Select "Challenges" on the menu bar to sign up for Community Challenge / Corporate Challenge / Youth Challenge.

Select "Apps" on the menu bar and choose your preferred fitness tracking device to pair with the Healthy 365 mobile app. Use the FREE HPB fitness tracker^* or one of these compatible⁵ mobile apps and fitness trackers.

For participants who are using one of the compatible mobile apps and fitness trackers, your device needs to be able to track heart rate data in order to contribute towards the MVPA category.

Challenge Period

STEP 5:

Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activities every week and 10,000 steps every day.

Sync your HPB fitness tracker^* with the Healthy 365 mobile app or Healthy 365 kiosks at least once every 7 days to avoid losing your fitness activity records.

HPB fitness trackers are continuously recording your heart rate, as long as it is charged. If you wish to view your heart rate in real-time, you can tap on the heart rate symbol on your tracker.

^* Only Singaporeans/Permanent Residents who have signed up for National Steps Challenge^™ Season 4 (including returning participants from past seasons) are eligible for the free HPB fitness trackers, available on a first-come-first-served, while stocks last basis. The National Steps Challenge™ Season 4 starts on 27 October 2018 and ends on 30 April 2019. Participants must be at least 17 years old at the time of signing up. Other terms and conditions apply.

STEP 1:

For participants who do not have a smartphone compatible with the Healthy 365 mobile app, sign up and get your free HPB fitness tracker* at any of the National Steps Challenge^™ roadshows near you.

Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activities every week and 10,000 steps every day. Record your activities with your HPB fitness tracker*.

Update your fitness activity at any Healthy 365 kiosk.

Alternatively, you can use the ‘Sync for Friends’ function on the Healthy 365 mobile app using your friend’s smartphone. Find out how here.

Remember to sync your fitness tracker at least once every 7 days to avoid losing your fitness records.

Roadshows / Trackers Collection

Please read the collection eligibility carefully before heading down to a collection site. Certain sites might only cater to new participants. Returning participants and Completers are advised to only proceed to the respective collection sites which are clearly indicated as for “Returning participants” or “Completers”.

For sites where an appointment is required, please ensure that you proceed to the collection site on the pre-booked date and time only. Walk-ins at these sites will not be entertained.

Please complete the health declaration on the Healthy 365 mobile app and ensure you are in good fitness condition before attempting MVPA. If you have an existing heart condition or any other illness and/or injury, please consult a doctor prior to your participation.
