It's the beginning of the foetal period and rapid growth for your baby, which now resembles the size of a kumquat
Tissues and organs grow rapidly from now on, with vital organs now making red blood cells and starting to function. Your little one is also able to move their limbs and wrists now. Bones and cartilage are forming knees and elbows. Say cheese, as first teeth are being formed under the gums, but these won't appear until around your baby's six-month birthday. New growth miracles are happening every day; even fingernails are growing.
Your womb is now the size of a grapefruit and your body is changing, but that doesn't mean you should give up physical exercise and sports that you love. Maintaining a level of fitness can provide huge benefits to both you and your baby. Check with your doctor that it's safe for you to keep active and try moderate exercise most days a week, or as you feel physically comfortable with. Walking, doing yoga, and swimming are all good choices. Simple squats every day also help strengthen the legs and groin in preparation for the physical stress of childbirth.
