What is MediFund?
MediFund is an endowment fund set up to help lower-income Singaporeans. MediFund is a safety net for patients who face financial difficulties with their remaining bills after receiving government subsidies and drawing on other means of payments, including MediShield Life, Integrated Shield Plans (IPs), MediSave and cash.
It was set up in April 1993 with an initial capital sum of $200 million, and has grown since then through periodic capital injections from the government. The interest income generated from the endowment fund is used to provide financial assistance for healthcare bills.
Patients and/or their families can approach the medical social workers at MediFund-approved institutions if they require assistance with their healthcare bills.
