Parent Hub: Grow Well SG - Being Active

BEING ACTIVE

Getting your child moving can feel like an uphill battle, especially when screens are calling their name. But staying active doesn't have to mean finding more time in your day. The moments are already there. Turn the walk to school into a game, make chores more active, or have a quick dance-off before dinner. When movement is fun and fits naturally into family life, healthy habits become easier to build.

As part of their weekly routine, it helps to weave in muscle- and bone-strengthening activities like playground games, skipping or climbing. Aiming for at least three times a week sounds like a lot, but it's easier than it sounds when movement is already part of your day.

Small Steps, Big Difference

ACTIVITIES FOR THE FAMILY

From home challenges to outdoor play, get active with your child using these simple, fun ideas that keep the whole family moving.

RED, SET, GO!

Turn your next journey into an adventure. A simple walk can help your family move more, chat more and discover something new together.

  1. Heading somewhere? Turn the journey into a colour hunt.
  2. Spot something red and call it out before everyone else can!
  3. Who'll be crowned the Red Spotting Champion by the time you arrive?

LAUNDRY DASH

Got laundry to sort? Get the kids involved by turning it into a fun movement challenge. Grab a clothing item, race to the right basket using a silly movement, then dash back for the next one!

  1. Set up two or more baskets for different clothing groups, such as whites and colours.
  2. Pick up one clothing item at a time and race to the correct basket. To make it more fun, call out a movement like "hop like a bunny", "waddle like a penguin" or "march like a soldier" before each run.
  3. Keep going until all the clothes are sorted. See who can sort the most items correctly or complete the laundry challenge first!

BUILDING HEALTHY HABITS BY EXAMPLE

Children are always watching, and they're more likely to join in when they see you having fun too.

The good news? You don't need to carve out extra time for exercise. Take the stairs together, walk to the nearby shop, or make a quick detour to the playground. These little moments of movement may seem small, but they can help build healthy habits that last.

BENEFITS OF BEING ACTIVE

Being active isn't just good for your child's development. It's also a great excuse to spend more quality time together, no extra planning required. Add your child's profile to the Healthy 365 app to unlock family-friendly activities and discover more ways to stay active together.
