What is this medication for?
Probiotics are supplements that contain helpful bacteria or inactive microbial bodies that help maintain a healthy balance of bacteria in your digestive system. They work by restoring the balance of good bacteria in your gut, preventing harmful bacteria from sticking to the gut walls, and supporting your body's natural immune defenses.
Probiotics are commonly used for the symptomatic treatment of diarrhoea and other digestive problems such as bloating and constipation. Examples of probiotic strains include Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species.
Some probiotics may be used for other purposes such as supporting a healthy balanced vaginal microflora as well as optimal urinary tract health.
