During a dental examination, the dentist will:
- Perform scaling and polishing—scaling removes the hard tartar which forms on your teeth, while polishing removes any coffee, tea, cigarette or red wine stains
- Check for cavities and gum disease
- Evaluate your risk of developing other oral health problems
- Take dental x-rays or other diagnostics procedures, if necessary
