What is this medication for?
Triamcinolone oral paste/lotion is used for the treatment of mouth ulcers. Triamcinolone belongs to a class of medications called corticosteroid. This medication helps to reduce inflammation of the mouth ulcer or sore.
How should I take or use this medication?
Oral paste
- Dab or press a small amount of paste on the affected area using a clean, dry finger or cotton swab. A smooth, slippery film forms after application. Do not rub the paste in, as the paste will become crumbly, grainy or gritty.
- Apply to the affected after meals or at bedtime as directed by your healthcare professional.
Oral lotion
- Apply to the affected area as directed by your healthcare professional.
- Do not eat or drink immediately after applying the oral lotion.
What precautions should I take when taking or using this medication?
Inform your healthcare professional if:
- You are allergic to this medication or any of the other ingredients of this medication
- You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
- You are using other preparations that is to be applied to the same area of the mouth
- If you have any of the conditions or symptoms such as viral skin infection (cold sores, chicken pox), fungal or bacterial infection of the mouth or throat (unless the doctor is already treating it with antifungals or antibiotics), tuberculosis of the skin, diabetes or stomach ulcer
What are some common side effects of this medication?
Burning, itching, irritation, dryness or redness of the treated area may occur.
If any of these effects persist or worsen, consult a doctor or dentist.
What are some rare but serious side-effects that I need to seek medical advice immediately?
The symptoms of a drug allergy include one or more of the following:
- Swollen face/eyes/lips/tongue
- Difficulty in breathing
- Itchy skin rashes over your whole body
If you experience any of these symptoms, you should stop your medication and see your doctor immediately.
How should I store this medication?
Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep this medication away from children.
How do I throw away this medication safely?
Pack this medication into a black trash bag and seal it tightly before throwing into the rubbish chute or bin.
