What is Gastroscopy?
Gastroscopy refers to an examination of your upper gastrointestinal tract, including the oesophasgus, stomach, and upper part of the bowel, to confirm or rule out the presence of medical conditions such as stomach ulcers and gastritis.
What Goes On During a Gastroscopy Procedure?
The procedure is conducted with a flexible telescope known as an endoscope, which is gently inserted into your mouth and advanced into the gastrointestinal tract. The test is typically carried out when patients experience symptoms such as heartburn, abdominal pain and bloating. Gastroscopy is also the most effective screening method for stomach cancer.
