
Officially launched in October 2011, the Health Ambassador Network is a community of volunteers who live healthy lifestyles and inspire others to do the same. The aim is to grow a social move ment for healthy living within Singapore.
Are you comfortable talking to strangers, or do you prefer helping others behind the scenes?
Whatever your style, there's a role for you in promoting health with HPB.
What is a Health Advocate?
As a
Health Advocate, you will:
- Reach out to your social networks to mentor and inspire others to lead a healthy lifestyle
- Receive regular updates on the latest health news, and policies invitations to community activities
How to become a Health Advocate?
Attend a Health
Advocacy Workshop, which will equip you with:
- Simple health advocacy skills
- Tips on weight management
Advocates who demonstrate a strong passion to do more, will be shortlisted to become Health Ambassadors.
What can a Health Ambassador do?
- Support HPB and its partners at community events, raise awareness of a variety of health issues and persuade members of the public to join health programmes
- Lead interest groups in your local community
Health Ambassadors' roles include:
I Quit Health Ambassadors
Tapping on similar experiences,
I Quit Health Ambassadors act as mentors at the I Quit roadshows, encouraging quit attempts among smokers and provide information on a smoke-free living.
Tele-Care Health Ambassadors
Through telephone counselling, Tele-Care Ambassadors encourage individuals with abnormal screening results to go for medical follow-up.
Interest Group Leaders
These individuals passionately organise and lead small health interest groups, enriching the number of health promoting options within their communities. They may do so with the support of the

Taking the neighbourhood's health as her responsibility
As a health-conscious person, Sharon Ng constantly encourages her neighbours to pay attention to their health. She introduced dancing and Rummy-O activity to her neighbourhood. Under her influence, her husband successfully quit smoking and has become a Health Ambassador. (Lianhe Zaobao, Page 1)

Hello, have you seen the doctor for a follow-up?
About 70 per cent of the people diagnosed with abnormal results at seven islandwide screening centres have gone for follow-up checks. This was up from only 15 per cent of those who needed follow-up checks in 2012, when the ambassadors were introduced.

The full-time volunteer
