Question: How Can I Help My Child Relax His Eyes?

Near work activity like reading, using the tablet, or watching TV can strain the eye. A good rule of thumb to remember is that looking at distant objects relaxes our eyes while looking at nearer objects taxes them.

Remind your child to take a break from near work activities every 30-40 minutes and look at the trees outside for 5 minutes.

Alternatively, simply closing his eyes and letting them rest for a bit is also a good way to take an eye break. Eye exercises can also help to reduce strain and relax the eyes, although they do not help in preventing myopia.

And make sure the little one practises good eye care habits such as doing near work activities under proper lighting, maintaining a distance from a book or screen, and of course, spending 2 to 3 hours a day outside because sunlight has been shown to prevent or delay myopia.
