Domperidone Tablet or Suspension

Domperidone is used for the relief of symptoms of excessive fullness, nausea, stomach bloating and belching occasionally accompanied by stomach discomfort and heartburn after meals. Domperidone belongs to a group of medications known as dopamine antagonists. Domperidone works by stimulating gut movement.

​What is this medication used for

Domperidone is used for the relief of symptoms of excessive fullness, nausea, stomach bloating and belching occasionally accompanied by stomach discomfort and heartburn after meals. Domperidone belongs to a group of medications known as dopamine antagonists. Domperidone works by stimulating gut movement.

 

Dosage and How to Use 

In adults and children aged ≥ 12 years old weighing ≥ 35 kg
The recommended dose is 10mg (one tablet or 10ml) to be taken 3 times daily when required. Maximum 30mg per day. Take half to one hour before food.

​In children aged < 12 years old and those aged ≥ 12 years old weighing < 35 kg
The recommended dose is 0.25 mg/kg orally up to three times daily.

     

Side Effects, Precautions, Contraindication

Before you use this medication

Medical advice should be sought before use if you have any of the following conditions or symptoms: severe stomach cramps or persistent black sticky stools, bleeding, obstruction or hole in the wall of the stomach and intestines; heart problems including heart failure, previous heart attack, chest pains or rapid, slow or irregular heartbeats; disease of the liver, kidney or pituitary gland.

This medication should be avoided if you have a known history of allergy to domperidone or any of the other listed ingredients in the product.

​Please seek your doctor's or pharmacist's advice before using this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or have heart disease.

                                                                                                                                                         

Interactions with other medications

Be sure to inform your doctor and/or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or plan to take other medications, nutritional supplements or herbal products.

​Be sure to mention any of the following: heart medications (e.g. amiodarone), anti-fungal medications (e.g. ketoconazole), anti-depressants (e.g. trazodone), calcium channel blocker (e.g. verapamil, diltiazem), macrolide antibiotics (e.g. erythromycin, clarithromycin), anti-virals (e.g.  indinavir, ritonavir).

 

Side Effects

Common side effects: dry mouth, headache, diarrhea, breast tenderness, fast or irregular heart beats.

 

Handling and Storage

Keep out of reach and sight of children. 
​Store in a cool dry place, protected from light.​​

 

When to seek further medical advice

Inform your doctor and/or pharmacist immediately if you experience any allergic symptoms (e.g. rashes, itchiness, difficulty in breathing or eye swelling) or serious side effects due to this medication such as fast or irregular heart beats, uncontrolled movements of the eye, tongue or abnormal posture, passing urine more frequently or experiencing pain when passing urine or swelling of hands, ankles, or feet.

Consult a doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 14 days of use, or if condition worsens.

​Do not use this medication for more than 14 days without medical supervision.
