It is used to treat pain caused by endometriosis.

Dosage and How to Use

Take one pill at the same time each day with liquid and without regard to meals, until the pack is empty. Start the next pack on the day after the current pack is finished without any interruption. You don’t have to wait any days between packs.

Missed a Dose

The effectiveness of Visanne may be reduced in the event of missed tablets, vomiting and/or diarrhea (if occurring within 3-4 hours after tablet taking). In the event of missed tablets, take one tablet only as soon as you remember, and then continue to take the tablet at your usual time the next day. A tablet not absorbed due to vomiting or diarrhea should likewise be replaced by one tablet. Do not double your dose or use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose. If you have missed several doses, please contact your doctor or pharmacist to check what you should do.

Side Effects, Precautions, Contraindication

What possible side effects may it cause?

Common side effects include headache, breast discomfort, mood changes and acne.

Rare but serious side effects include the risk of blood clot formation in the vein or artery, particularly in the legs, feet or lungs. Please seek medical attention if you think you have symptoms of blood clot or malignancies. Call your doctor right away if you have signs of a blood clot like chest pain or pressure; coughing up blood; shortness of breath; swelling, warmth, numbness, change of color, or pain in a leg or arm; or trouble speaking or swallowing.

What precautions should I take?

Inform your doctor if you are allergic to this medicine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding. Always inform your health care professionals that you are on this medication as some medications may affect the effectiveness of this medication. Please seek medical attention if you think you have symptoms of blood clots.

If you vomit within 3-4 hours of taking a tablet or you have severe diarrhoea, there is a risk that the active substances in the pill will not be fully taken up by your body. The situation is almost the same as forgetting a tablet. After vomiting or diarrhoea, take another tablet from a reserve strip as soon as possible.

What other medicines and food should I avoid?

Some medications can have significant interactions with dienogest. This includes medications such as tranexamic acid, ulipristal acetate, as well as St. John's Wort. Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you happen to be taking any of these medications together with dienogest.
