Triamcinolone Oral or Dental Paste

Triamcinolone oral paste is used for treatment and symptomatic relief of oral inflammatory lesions and ulcerative lesions. Triamcinolone belongs to a group of medications called corticosteroids. Triamcinolone works by reducing inflammation.

​What is this medication used for

Triamcinolone oral paste is used for treatment and symptomatic relief of oral inflammatory lesions and ulcerative lesions. Triamcinolone belongs to a group of medications called corticosteroids. Triamcinolone works by reducing inflammation.

 

Dosage and How to Use

Adults and Children 7 years old and above

Do not apply the medication in the eyes. It is only to be used inside the mouth.

Dab or press a small amount of paste on the affected area using a clean, dry finger or cotton swab. A smooth, slippery film forms after application. Do not rub the paste in, as the paste will become crumbly, grainy, or gritty.

Apply to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily after meals or at bedtime as directed by your doctor or dentist. Do not eat or drink immediately after applying the oral paste. Do not apply more than four times in 24 hours. Do not use for longer than 5 days without medical advice.

​If you forget or miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed application and continue with the next dose at the usual time.

 

Side Effects, Precautions, Contraindication

Before you use this medication

Medical advice should be sought before use if you have any of the conditions or symptoms such as  viral skin infection (eg. chickenpox or cold sores), any fungal or bacterial infection of the mouth or throat (unless the doctor is treating it with antifungals or antibiotics), diabetes or stomach ulcer.

This oral paste should be avoided if you have a known history of allergy to triamcinolone or any of the other listed ingredients in the product.

​If you are pregnant, may become pregnant or are breast feeding, you should speak to your doctor before using triamcinolone oral paste.

 

Interactions with other medications

Be sure to inform your doctor and/or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or plan to take other medications, nutritional supplements or herbal products.

​When used as an oral paste, triamcinolone is unlikely to cause interactions with other medications.

 

Side effects

Common side effects: Burning, itching, irritation, dryness, or redness of the treated area may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, consult a doctor or dentist.

​With prolonged use, there is a possibility of absorption into the body. This may cause side effects, particularly in infants and children. If you notice any other side-effects which you think may be as a result of using this product, stop treatment and consult your doctor immediately.

 

Handling and Storage

Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Store in a cool, dry place.
Discard after the date of expiry.

 

When to seek further medical advice

Inform your doctor and/or pharmacist immediately if you experience any allergic symptoms (e.g. rashes, itchiness, difficulty in breathing or swelling of eyes) or any other serious side effects due to this medication.

​If your condition worsens or does not improve after 5 days of use, consult a doctor or dentist.
