Why Walk in the Malls?

Mall-walking is one of the safest forms of physical activity. Walkers brisk-walk along the corridors of a shopping mall in the morning before the shops open for business. It is an inexpensive form of exercise which only requires comfortable clothes and a pair of good walking shoes.

The Health Promotion Board (HPB) runs physical activity programmes island-wide in collaboration with many partners to encourage the public to get active and exercise regularly for good health. For adults, it is recommended that you accumulate 150 minutes of *moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week, over three to seven days. Each bout of activity should last at least 10 minutes.

You can walk in the same mall with a structured programme on a regular basis. Some walkers try out different malls to vary their routine. Choose a walking programme that suits you at the nearest mall which offers such walks. Start walking to better health today!

*A moderate-intensity aerobic activity causes a slight increase in breathing and heart rate such that you are still able to talk but not sing.
