Osimertinib is a medicine used in the treatment of advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer.

Dosage and How to​​ Use

It is to be taken by mouth, once daily. It may be taken with or without food. Swallow whole. Do not crush, chew or split the tablet.

Missed a D​​ose

If you miss a dose of Osimertinib, you can take it as soon as you remember if there is at least 12 hours before the next dose.

However, if there is less than 12 hours before the next dose, skip the dose and take the next dose at the usual time. Do not double the dose.

Side Effects, Precautions, Contraindication

What are the common side eff​ects of Osimertinib?

  • Nausea, decreased appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Skin rash (may be acne-like), dry skin, itch
  • Nail infection
  • Mouth sores

Inform your doctor if any of the following occur​​s:

  • Signs of infection – fever, chills, cough, sore throat
  • Signs of unusual bleeding – bruising or black sticky stools
  • Pallor, light-headedness, gradually increasing tiredness or weakness
  • Diarrhea more than 4 times a day and not controlled by anti-diarrheal medications
  • Skin rash that is extensive and bothersome
  • Sudden or gradual onset of cough, chest pain or shortness of breath, with fever
  • Severe eye discomfort, sensitivity to light, blurred vision
  • Rapid or abnormal heartbeat, chest pain, swelling of the hands and feet or sudden weight gain​
  • Calf tenderness, warmth, swelling and redness

What precautions should I take while ​on Osimertinib:

  • Use effective birth control during and after stopping treatment for at least:
    • 6 weeks (for women) ​
    • ​4 months (for men)​
    Inform your doctor if you plan to get or suspect that you are pregnant.
  • ​Do not take any medications or supplements without medical supervision
  • Inform your physician or pharmacist if you have any other medical conditions e.g. heart disease, eye problems
  • Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight as it may worsen the rash. Use sunscreen and covered clothing if you need to be under the sun for a prolonged period of time.

Handling and Stor​​age

Store Osimertinib tablets out of the reach of children, at room temperature (20° to 25°C), away from heat, light and moisture.
