Levonorgestrel is used to lower the chance of pregnancy after unprotected sex.

Dosage and How to Use

  • Take one tablet as soon as possible within 72 hours after unprotected sex. Take the second tablet 12 hours after taking the first tablet.

  • If you vomit within 2 hours after taking the medicine, take another tablet as a replacement. Consult a doctor to get an additional dose of the medicine.

  • You should consult a doctor if you missed the second dose of the medicine.

Side Effects, Precautions, Contraindication

What are the possible side effects of the medicine?

Side effects of levonorgestrel include:

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Dizziness

  • Headache

  • Fatigue

  • Breast soreness

  • In some cases, breakthrough bleeding (spotting) may occur 2-3 days after taking the medicine.

How do I know if I am allergic to this medicine?

The symptoms of a drug allergy include one or more of the following:

  • Swollen face/ eyes/ lips

  • Difficulty in breathing

  • Itchy skin rashes over your whole body

If you experience any of these symptoms, you should stop your medicine immediately and see your doctor.

What precautions should I follow when taking the medicine?

  • Do not take more than 4 tablets each month. This medicine should not be used as your usual form of contraception.

  • Your next menstrual period should start as usual. However, if your menstrual period is delayed by more than 7 days, you should do a pregnancy test.

  • Check with your doctor immediately if you experience very bad pain at the lower abdominal area after taking the medicine.

Handling and Storage

  • Keep your medicines in the original container or packaging, tightly closed or sealed in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight.

  • Keep the medicine out of reach of children.

  • Throw away all expired medicines.
