If you would like to hire a foreign domestic worker to support you in caring for yourself or your loved ones, there is the Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW) Grant, which gives families $120 a month to hire an extra set of hands.

Here’s everything you need to know about the scheme.

What Is the Foreign Domestic Worker Grant?

The FDW Grant is an assistance scheme that supports families that require the help of a foreign domestic worker to care for loved ones who require permanent assistance with three or more activities of daily living (see below) as assessed by a doctor:
Washing
Dressing
Feeding
Toileting
Mobility
Transferring

Eligible families may receive a monthly grant of $120, which can be used to defray the cost of hiring a foreign domestic worker. The grant is applicable to one domestic worker per care recipient, and you may nominate yourself or a caregiver who is 18 years old and above to receive the payment.

Do note that there is a cap of two foreign domestic workers caring for two care recipients in one household at the same time.

Am I Eligible for the FDW Grant?

1. Nationality

To qualify for the FDW Grant, the care recipient must be a Singaporea citizen or Permanent Resident (PR). If the care recipient is a PR, he or she must be 65 years old and above. The employer of the foreign domestic worker must also be a Singapore citizen if the care recipient is a PR.

2. Foreign Domestic Worker Employer

In the event that you are hiring the foreign domestic worker for a loved one, you must be related to the care recipient and be living together at the same NRIC-registered address. There is no citizenship requirement for the foreign domestic worker employer if the care recipient is a Singaporean.

3. Household Income

All eligible families must also have a household monthly income of $2,600 per person and below. Households with no income will be assessed by the annual value of their property, which has to be less than $13,000.

4. Approved Training

The foreign domestic worker hired must undergo caregivers' training approved by the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC). You can use the Caregivers Training Grant, an annual $200 subsidy, to offset the cost of the training course.

How Do I Apply for the FDW Grant?

1. Hire a foreign domestic worker with the Ministry of Manpower’s approval
2. Send the foreign domestic worker for one of the AIC-approved courses listed in the Caregiver Training Courses e-Calendar
3. Once the course is completed, complete and submit this household means-test declaration form to the Ministry of Health
4. Prepare your FDW Grant application form and supporting documents and submit them to AIC. For more information on where you can find these documents, visit the Singapore Silver Pages website
