Common causes of childhood obesity include:
  • Prolong sedentary time
  • Excessive consumption of high-caloric and processed food
  • Insufficient or no physical activity
To prevent or treat childhood obesity, it is important that families are role models and provide the necessary support to help the child make healthier lifestyle choices.
Through lifestyle modifications such as healthy eating, getting enough sleep, reducing sedentary time (e.g. using electronic devices) and meeting the daily physical activity recommendations, you can prevent further escalation of health problems and help your child achieve a healthy weight.

To find out more about the physical activity recommendations, check out the Singapore Physical Activity Guidelines (SPAG).
