Desloratadine Syrup

Desloratadine is used for relieving symptoms of allergic conditions such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy and red eyes, skin rashes or hives. Desloratadine belongs to a group of medications called antihistamines. It works by stopping the effects of histamine, a chemical that causes the allergy symptoms.

Dosage and How to Use

Adults and Children 2 years old and above

Age​​ Recommen​ded dose for 0.5mg/ml Syrup
Adults and adolescents 12 years old and ​above10 ml to be taken once daily when required
​​​​Children 6-11 years old5 ml to be taken once daily when required
Children 2-5 years old2.5 ml to be taken once daily when required

Do not use for longer than 14 days without medical advice.

​Desloratadine may be taken with or without food. For the syrup, shake the bottle well before use.

Side Effects, Precautions, Contraindication

Before you use this medication

This medication should be avoided if you have a known history of allergy to desloratadine, loratadine or any of the other listed ingredients in the product.

​Please seek your doctor's or pharmacist's advice before using this medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

 

Interactions with other medications

Be sure to inform your doctor and/or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or plan to take other medications, nutritional supplements or herbal products.

 

Side effects

Common side effects: fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, indigestion, headache.

Rare side effects: fast or irregular heartbeat, stomach pain, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhoea.

 

Handling and Storage​

Keep out of reach and sight of children.
Store in a cool dry place.
Avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
​Keep this medicine in its original container until use. ​


 

 

When to seek further medical advice

Inform your doctor and/or pharmacist immediately if you experience any allergic symptoms (e.g. rashes, itchiness, difficulty in breathing or eye swelling), or symptoms of serious side effects (e.g. fast or irregular heartbeat, inability to sleep, muscle pain, hallucinations, seizures, restlessness with increased body movement).

If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.

​Consult a doctor if condition worsens or does not improve after 14 days of use.
